Apparently, the proposed fight between Yuri Foreman and Miguel Cotto, which has been close to becoming official for three weeks now, is still close to becoming official.
Lem Satterfield of Boxing FanHouse reports Bob Arum stating, "I have discussed the fight with the Cotto people, and we're trying to decide whether we should do it on pay-per-view or on HBO." Arum continued, "I just need to put it together and to finalize everything. Foreman and Cotto are both my fighters, and they want to fight each other." Both Foreman and Cotto are promoted by Arum's Top Rank.
ESPN's Dan Rafael reports that HBO is interested in the match up and has made an offer to Arum. "But," Rafael writes, "Arum has big numbers to cover for the fighters. He told me, without condemning HBO for its offer, that the numbers just don't work. Top Rank and HBO may work together on a pay-per-view, but unless something significant changes in the numbers, get ready to pay up again if it's a card that interests you."
Rick Reeno of BoxingScene.com reports WBA light middleweight titlist Yuri Foreman saying of Cotto, "It doesn't surprise me that Cotto wants to fight. Cotto is a great champion. He wants to fight a good fighter and wants to fight for the title." The fight is still proposed for June 12, 2010 at Madison Square Garden.
